Jewelry Care

Natural wear and tear over time can dull the look of jewelry. Lotions and moisture on the skin can accelerate tarnish. However, there are steps you can take to keep your jewelry looking its best:

  • Store jewelry in an airtight or anti-tarnish jewelry box or container

  • Take off jewelry when there is a chance they will be in contact with harsh chemicals, under excessive pressure (e.g. weightlifting), or prolonged exposure to water.

  • Put your jewelry on after you've gotten ready as perfumes, makeup and other products can accelerate tarnish

  • Use a small amount of dish soap and a soft bristle toothbrush to gently remove product buildup and/or after using a polishing cloth

  • Use a polishing cloth to keep your jewelry looking bright and clean.

What is the difference between solid gold, gold filled and gold vermeil?

  • Solid gold is a homogenous mixture of gold and is suitable for everyday wear.  We use 100% recycled solid gold.

  • Gold filled is just a step below solid gold. It is a thick layer of 14KT gold bonded to a core of jeweler’s brass. 14KT gold filled jewelry contains more than 100% more gold than gold plated jewelry and will not flake or rub off. With normal wear, it does not cause allergic reactions and can last decades. Gold fill can tarnish, albeit very slowly, and using a polishing cloth will maintain its look and shine.

  • Gold vermeil is a thick layer of gold plate over sterling silver.  We use 14K and 18K gold over 100% recycled sterling silver.  Gold vermeil requires more care and is best for occasional wear to increase its longevity.
